Stone is a nasty status ailment that you will start to encounter in the Earth Cave. Wh.MAGES can learn SOFT to cure Stone, but you'll need SOFT Potions regardless, in case the Wh.MAGE is turned to Stone himself.

You won't need a lot of SOFT Potions, but remember to stock up in ElfLand before leaving for Melmond, as that town has no item shop.

The Gold Needle cures characters of Stone, a nasty status ailment that you will thankfully only see rarely. Even if you have a White Mage with Stona, you should have a few of these around. After all, there won't be anyone to heal a Stone White Mage. Gold Needles are expensive, but you won't run into Stone until you fight Cockatrices deep in the Terra Cavern, so you can hold off for a while. Just remember that you need to stock up before heading to Melmond, as that town has no item shop.

Gold Needles are expensive but vital items, healing the Stone status ailment outside of battle. You won't see Stone until you reach the Coliseum, but it becomes a common status ailment once you head to Mysidia. Even if you have Esuna 5, you'll always want to have a Gold Needle or two on hand in case your Esuna caster is turned to Stone. Gold Needles are expensive and you'll only find a pair during the game, so be sure to invest in more when they are needed.
