The first version of the Masamune is very useful against Magus, but is quickly overshadowed by other Weapons. Late in the game, you can complete a series of tasks at the Northern Ruins to upgrade the Masamune to this true version. This is Frog's most powerful Weapon, and it can be combined with the Hero Medal to increase the Masamune's critical hit rate. However, you might want to keep another Weapon in reserve (preferably the BraveSword), because you will not have either version of the Masamune at the beginning of a New Game+.
