BADMEN get two powerful attacks, making them dangerous in large groups. They look small and weak, but they have plenty of HP and Defense. High Magic Defense makes them a pain to take out quickly, though it's worth using your various spellcasting items to soften them up while your melee fighters do the hard work. FOG2 or INV2 can also help a lot against large groups.

Doom Knights look like black Knights, but unlike their brethren, they are powerful Spellcasters. They like to cast Dispel, which is strange since they follow it up with Flare, which no one resists anyway. The chances that a Doom Knight will cast Flare by the second round are low, but don't take chances—take them down fast and hard, ignoring their Nightmare companions. They don't have the HP to withstand the powerful attacks of a high-level party, though they do have significant Magic Defense, and resist Death-based Spells like Reaper and Doom.

Death Riders are the poster child for why evasion is more important than defense in FFII. Their attacks are fierce, but more dangerous is the fact that they drain 1/16th of your max HP per hit—and that's in addition to their (considerable) normal damage. On the upside, they can drop Ribbons and some other nice items, and they are vulnerable to Fire. You will rarely see more than two at a time, so try to take out both in a single round.
