It is a viable Weapon for Warriors and Red Mages without Mythril Swords if you like to deal maximum damage, but you can safely skip it as well.

It is a viable Weapon for FIGHTERS and RedMAGES without Silver Swords if you only care about consistent damage, but it's safe to give it a pass.

The Longsword is a nice upgrade over the Broadsword, but suffers from a significant drop in accuracy. If you can get through the Semitt Falls without one, you can pick one up in the very next dungeon. On the other hand, it's not a terribly expensive weapon, so don't hesitate to buy one if you can afford it.
